Family firms like ours operate across the UK and deserve to be recognised for the significant contribution they make to the areas in which they operate and to the UK economy.
Family firms come in all sizes and across all sectors with many having been around for hundreds of years, successfully passing from generation to generation. They are resilient, innovative, and entrepreneurial, taking a long-term view and invest in their businesses accordingly.
National Family Business Day, which takes place annually on September 23, celebrates the cumulative contribution British family firms make to the UK economy.
When it comes to the numbers, they stand for themselves. Studies show that there are around 6 million family firms in the UK today and that they account for more than 12 million jobs and generate around 25% of GDP!
It is also recognised that the greatest part of Britain’s wealth is held within family businesses meaning that the family business sector is a force to be reckoned locally, regionally, and nationally.
As Paul Andrews, Founder of Family Business United says;
This is a campaign that celebrates firms that are at the heart of the UK economy and the focal point of many towns and villages across the UK. Family firms have a story, a real narrative, often entwined with history and heritage and it is their very essence and the family connection that makes them special. They care too and if you add that to the fact that they are significant economic generators and referred to as the engine room of the UK economy, you can see why they deserve to be celebrated too.
National Family Business Day helps to raise the profile of the positive contribution that family firms like K&S McKenzie make on a daily basis throughout the UK and we are encouraging all family firms to get involved
Stuart McKenzie, Director of K&S McKenzie adds;
As a family business, we are delighted to be taking part in a day that celebrates businesses like ours. We are proud to be a family firm that has been in operation since 1968 and continue to look to the future, investing in the next generation and the future of our family business.
